A study tour was organized by the Faculty of Hotel Management and Catering Technology of Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute University, for the students of the department on the 15th November 2014. The locations in the agenda were Vedanthangal and Alambara Fort, 62 KMs & 75KMs, respectively from Chennai. Students of 2nd and 3rd years took part on the tour along with the faculty members and the Head of the department.

It was a day out and a day different from the routine for all the students, faculty members and the head of the department. Vedanthangal – a bird sanctuary – was full of birds of different kinds. Every year around this time the birds across the borders of the state and the countries fly into this location which has a large and sprawling water body, which the birds find it essential for their yearly sojourn. Students and the faculty members who went with the binoculars could take time to watch the birds and enjoy looking at their plumage and their intermittent flights within the location from tree to tree and jumping down and up the branches. None of those there felt tired and the time flew like the winged birds. There were herons, egres, storks, pintail, garvganry, grey wagtail, blue winged bird, etc.,

The Alambara Fort – a historical location – was built during the Mughal period -some time between 1736 – 1740. The French later had a control on it till the Indian Independence. The location is a national heritage . Great time it was to be present there now with the mind travelling back to the Mughal era.
