The students of Faculty of Hotel Management and Catering Technology could get the opportunity to participate in the International Vegetarian Union Congress – 2014.19 students belonging to 1st year. 3 students of 2nd year and 3 students of the 3rd year were selected for their participation in the Vegetarian Congress. The event focused on the importance of vegetarian food and how vegetarian food helped people to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The event was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate change – Government of India – Mr. Prakash Javedkar.
The students of the department helped the organizers in speaker coordination, venue managements, delegates’ registration and issue of donor forms to the prospective donors. The students seized the opportunity to get into various service activities and were therefore were a part of the successful congress. The Head of the Department – Mr. M Prabu and two of the faculty members – Mr. Vivek & Mr. Shakir John – took active part in the event. The students were highly motivated to be a part of the successful event. The co-operation and the coordination that the students could extend to the organizers were praiseworthy and there was a lot of learning that happened to them. The 3 day international conference was attended by over 1000 delegates. The cross section of the delegates included food industry experts, environmentalists, students, teachers, Chefs, women and general public.
