PUNJABI KHANNA WORKSHOP – 2015

In order to provide practical knowledge to its students, the Faculty of Hotel Management & Catering Technology of Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute University conducts several workshops during the courses. One such was the two day workshop cum culinary competition titled Punabi Khana Workshop, held at University campus, on the 3rd and the 4th of August, 2015. Live Executive Sous Chef Shabaz Singh from Mahindra Holidays & Resorts, Binsar Valley, Uttarkakhand, conducted the workshop.

The purpose of the workshop was to give the students of the department an exposure to the authentic village cuisines of Punjab. Punjabi food is loved all over the world for its taste, varieties and the strong flavours. Getting to learn from an expert Punjabi chef is a good opportunity. Such an experience to make wide varieties of Punjabi village food and tandoori preparations help students in a big way. Punjabi cuisine revolves around the ingredients – Wheat, masala (spice), pure desi ghee (Clarified butter) with liberal amounts of butter and cream.

The workshop cum competition was a good opportunity for learning. The students of the department were happy and there was therefore whole-hearted participation by them.
