World Psychology Students' Day, 2024

Honorable President A.C.S. Arun Kumar Launches World Psychology Students’ Day at MGRERI. Organized by Dr. MGR Psycubs Club, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Hotel Management, Culinary Arts, and De-Novo Courses.

Students of the Department of Psychology united to launch the first “World Psychology Students’ Day” to be celebrated on 24th April every year; a global initiative aimed at the well-being of students world wide.

More About The Day

Psychology has been an integral and essential part of every field wherever there are human-human, human-machine, human-animal, and human-nature interactions. But the value and importance given to this discipline as an independent entity have not been on par with the magnitude of its contributions in every field, especially when it comes to education and specializations in the discipline of psychology.

This seems to be happening predominantly because everyone other than the people who have studied the subject holds the irrational belief that they know the psychology of people and systems around them and that they are efficient enough to manage it by themselves based on their experiential learning.

The students who take up psychology as their core course for study or who work on a career in the field do not get the essential recognition and opportunities to showcase their professional skills. There are also inconsistencies on whether graduations and higher studies in the field of psychology should come under arts or science or Paramedical/allied health sciences, irrespective of whatever specialization it may be.

Hence, it has become essential for students of psychology all over the world to come together to create better awareness about the discipline, the learning involved, retrieve the value and respect for the discipline, and create awareness about the need to include trained psychology professionals in every field for optimum output without compromising the welfare and sustainable development of mankind. The initiative to celebrate THE WORLD PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS DAY on 24th April of every year has been taken Dr MGR Psy Cubs Club, the students Unit of Department of Psychology, Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute (Deemed to be University) with the first celebration being done on 24/4/24 at the university premises
